Dead or Alive Roundup

We had a nice time at MoAD and a tasty lunch afterwards at this semi-hidden japanese noodle house.

We weren't allowed to take pictures in the exhibit, so we had to polish off the ninja skills to get these.

(Note: I am not a very good ninja.)

Hey A-Teamers,

All Hallows Eve is upon us, and in order to celebrate this spooky month, we've decided to check out the Dead or Alive show at the Museum of Arts and Design.
The show presents the work of over 30 international artists who transform organic materials and objects that were once produced by or part of living organisms-insects, feathers, bones, silkworm cocoons, plant materials, and hair-to create intricately crafted and designed installations and sculptures.

The Skinny:

Who: You
What: Checking out art
When: Saturday October 23rd at noon

River Tubing - Summer Cool Down

UPDATE: RIVER TUBING CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER! We had to cancel due to the cold weather (70) and a 40% chance of rain.
We'll reschedule this event for a warm and dry weekend. Stay tuned!

Hi, A-Teamers,

We are going tubing this Sunday along the Delaware river.
Co-Captain Carl A. did it this past weekend and had a blast, so we're going!

The Skinny!:

Who: You
What: Floating down a river in a tube.
When: Sunday August 1st
Where: Delaware River Tubing
Wear: Clothes that can get wet, and some beat up ol' sneakers to protect your feet. Towel to dry off with.
Why: We gotta beat the heat!
Wallet: $27 for tube rental, couple bucks for parking, and some gas money to chip in for the drivers. And maybe some money for some snacks afterwards. All in all, I'm estimating about $40.
Watch: Leaving NYC at 11am and likely to arrive back at 5pm.
What else: We will be carpooling, so I need to get a headcount as early possible to make sure everyone has a ride.
What else part 2: We may need to rent a ZipCar. Let me know if you have an account with them and/or are willing to drive.

Big Bambú - Wrap Up

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the event!
And a big ups to the European tourists who gave us their picnic food so we didn't have to buy any!

Cameras were not allowed in the Big Bambú installation, so we only have photos from the picnic afterwards.

Thanks to Richie T., for grabbing the snap shot!

How many A-Teamers have cars or Zip Car accounts? We may head a bit out of the area for the next event.
(Tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 1st).

Big Bambú at The Met, July 17th

Hey A-Teamers,

Co-Captain Sara J. suggested we go check out the Big Bambú installation at the Met so that's what we are doing! (It's also Matthew G.'s birthday that day!)

Who: You
What: Climbing through the bamboo installation built above the Met's viewing deck.
When: Saturday July 17th- Arriving at the Big Bambu ticket counter (at 81st street, OUTSIDE the Met) before noon. I will be there at 11am to try and help save us a spot in line. Come keep me company!
Where: The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Wear: MUST wear rubber soled shoes. Sandals and leather soled shoes are not allowed. And no skirts/short-shorts because you will be climbing above people's heads.
Why: Large scale interactive art is hella rad
Wallet: Suggested museum donation is $20. Extra money for bodega snacks afterwards.
What else: We are planning on picnicking/snacking afterwards in Central park. Consider bringing some snackies and storing them in coat check during the tour.
What else part 2: The ticketing for this event is a bit tricky. It is on a first come first serve, one ticket per person, basis. So, alas, we will have to do some waiting in line and may be split between two tour groups. Read the Met's website for a complete explanation.

Fourth of July

Hello A-Teamers,
We didn't plan a Fourth of July event in advance.
However, on the morning of the Fourth, a few plans came together and some of us met up at Richie T.'s studio rooftop to watch the fireworks.
After getting past the police barricade and the officer with commitment issues, we had a fun time on the roof.
Richie T., Bart H., Sara J., Bryn B., Jimmy and Laura, and Matthew G. were all there.

Photos by Bart, (with some editing by Matthew)

Big ups to Macy's for sponsoring this event.

Re: Goooooooaaalllllll!!!!

Hey A-Teamers!

The world cup game was great, and after all of the cheering, your humble narrator's voice is so hoarse, it sounds as if I am going through puberty again!

We commandeered the corner at Mulholland's Bar after we found out that Berry Park was at capacity. Mind you, this was three hours before the the start of the game!

Hope everyone had a great time, and really hope that free beer that woman gave me was beer and only beer!

First Goal (WTF?!)

Second Goal (Suhweet, but seriously, WTF?! We scored due to an error?! Whatevs)

ICFF - Picture Nabbin' and Roundup Commentary

Hey, A-Teamers,
So, ICFF has been a nonstop tour around the city.
Of course, like a champ, I didn't bring a camera, so I am nabbing photos and flyers from the web. I'm classy like that.

Here is my loot bag from the weekend!
Check out the wooden flashlight, Moleskine notebooks, and Core77 "eyeglasses" that I scored! Hella fresh!

Eric and Makaga spotted Yoko Ono at the Cooper Hewitt giftshop. Yay?

Makaga snagging pictures in mirror at Cooper Hewitt. Guard on duty was disapproving.

Brunchies at Freeman's on Saturday. Eric, Richie, Julie, Makaga, Jessica et al.. Almost the entire bar and bartender were from California. Stay Golden!

Big thanks to Markus D. for getting Eric and Makaga into the Ace hotel bar for some fun drinks. Saw Lauryn B., Tyler and Kari M., Joseph from Objecti, Michael C., and some Petanquers from CA inside. Later, when the crowd died down, went into the basement for the munNY show.

Roll & Hill lighting. Crazy dangerous building, BTW.

Cool Japanese butcher shop. Was kinda hoping for a full on demo on how to butcher an animal. These glass sausages were pretty neato.

Nice owner and employee, BTW.

Diana Y. (from CA, too) serving up some AMAZING s'mores at the Areaware party. Seriously taking a campsite favorite to a whole nutha level. Sayin'

Areaware had a nice goody bag with flashlights!

Partners & Spade for Morris Kitchen Ginger Syrup. Tyler and Kari, FTW!
Met Andy Spade there, too. Man-Crush? Yes.
Really cool flags inside.

Partners & Spade

Katie B. (from CA, too) had her work in this show. Freetime, FTW!

Brunch at Cookshop.

La Quinta hotel rooftop bar is where we had our after party. Mike B., B-Dubs, and Richie.

Mike B. and Greasy M. playing with fake glasses, even though we actually wear real ones on a daily basis.

Makaga looking spooky in the crowd.
